F1 News For the Week of 6/11-6/18

1. As per a Sky sports report, fan-favorite Robert Kubica could be returning to the sport as early as next year after testing out an old Lotus vehicle. How big of a deal is this? Well Lewis Hamilton has been quoted pinning him as the best driver he's ever faced... And as a man who's often short on compliments for his competitors, it just goes that much further to show how special he is.

2. In a Formula1.com interview, Renault engineer Cyril Abiteboul mentioned the massive pressure for the team to perform better, and heaped on the praise for his #1 driver Nico Hulkenburg. When asked about the future of F1 engines he: 1. Pointed out how much they've shaped the grid and reiterated the importance of a solid engine and 2. threw his support behind hybrid engines and the "electrification" of F1. (Though he doesn't feel a full Formula E route is necessary)

3. Magnussen threw his full support behind the struggling Haas F1 Team, praising its "fresh environment". Which by extension, could be seen as poor manners to his former team, Honda McLaren.

4. Speaking of the once-great giants of Woking, this week they confirmed what we all predicted. They will be separating with their engine partners of 3 years, Honda. Smart move McLaren. Smart Move.

5. The gap between the top 4 teams and the rest of the pack this year has been much more pronounced as usual. Force India stand at the threshold at 71 points, while next-best Toro Rosso boast a mere 29. In fact, the bottom 6 teams combined only have 17 more points than Force India, by the end of the season, it is very likely that F.I. will have more points than the bottom 6 teams combined. Ouch.
