Livery Ranking 2021

1. Alfa Romeo

It's going to be such a loss when Alfa Romeo leaves F1 next season. While their performance reputation might not have been increased during their time with Sauber, their styling department surely has. Even the hearts and snakes testing livery they debuted over the last two years would've been some of the smartest looking on the grid. Whoever does their livery work should move to Mercedes, and give us some real visual flair at the front of the grid.

2. Williams

It's like a video-game car. I love it. It's the kinda car livery you think kids will look back on in 15 years as one of their favorite. The only trip into the history books is speed though. We'll see if they get it.

3. Aston Martin

New is better. While the green is a bit lighter, the pink doesn't totally ruin the look. For that alone their livery designer deserves a raise.

4. McLaren

McLaren's livery is just so iconic. You could spot the car from the over side of the city, and for a racing team that's key. Especially for a team with such personality, the livery just fits. Hope they keep it, and hope they innovate on it for 2022.

5. Alpine

Alpine's livery... sort of disappointed me. With all the options in the world, the light blue is a little dull, and the car would've looked better with white accents on the bottom. Hopefully the black is just to avoid any inquisitive team photographers from gaining info, but they're so close to a perfect livery.

6. Mercedes

Mercedes' livery is largely unchanged. That's why it's this far down. The black is a nice departure from the usual silver we've become accustomed to over the last 7(!) years. The weight of the gesture also isn't lost. Overall a very solid livery, enjoy when big teams take risks.

7. Red Bull

Speaking of risks... Red Bull took 0 in 2021. I was hoping with the introduction of Checo and his new sponsors that the car livery might get spiced up. The hope was dashed, and their 2021 challenger is just the 2020 one in disguise. If you have a boring livery, you need to win races.

8. AlphaTauri

For a clothing brand this one is a poor showing. As graphic designer turned F1 blogger TommoF1 has mentioned, AlphaTauri has failed to settle into their livery the way Toro Rosso did before.

9. Haas

I couldn't believe this when it came out. Hopefully I'm not alone in absolutely loathing this vehicle. What began as a terrible driver move has morphed into a total team takeover. How the F1 will allow this team to race with this livery next season is beyond me. Do us a favor. Axe Mazepin.
