3 Title Races that Would've Changed if you Switched Out One Race

Hey race fans. In F1's illustrious 50 year history there surely have been a lot of 'ifs', 'ands', or 'buts'. But none of those caveats revolve around the sport more than: what if the calendar had been different? If Canada race had been replaced with Mexico would we have seen a different outcome? In this list, we'll set the record straight.

2010: Abu Dhabi becomes Austria

An absolute disaster for Fernando Alonso and Ferrari could have been so easily replaced with a change in circuit. Alonso's painful decade of laps behind Vitaly Petrov ensured he wouldn't see his third title on that day. But what if it were a different circuit? While DRS didn't exist back then, Austria is notorious for being tight, and for constant overtakes at the front. If Max can do it in 2019, why not Alonso in 2010? With Petrov out of the way and a potential dogfight coming down to driving skill alone, Alonso becomes a three time world champion.

1990: Suzuka retirements becomes full-race dogfight

1990. The most controversial end to an F1 season. Senna takes out Prost. Prost leaves for Ferrari. It's forever etched into the brains of anyone who saw it. Let's just say for argument's sake, this race becomes another circuit where turn one is a lot quicker. Let's say Bahrain. In this instance, Senna struggles to take out Prost, and has to beat him on track over 53 laps. What follows is the best hour and a hald of racing in f1 history. If only it had happened for real.

1976: Suzuka (again) becomes Austin

1976 saw some of the most dramatic disasters in F1 history. So its no wonder that on a wet and windy day in Japan, Niki Lauda chose not to risk his life and race. However, if that race were in another area of the world that day, it's likely Lauda would've rid on the back of that good fortune to another World Driver's Title. God only knows what would've unfolded, but it's clear the battle would've been on. If only we were lucky enough to witness it.
