Top 5 Drivers of the Bahrain Grand Prix

Honorable Mention:

It would be irresponsible to not mention Romain high on this list. What we see every weekend is only possible because the men and women of Formula 1 are willing to risk their lives so frequently. Massive credit to the Haas F1 team, Romain Grosjean, and the responsible F1 medical workers.

5. Daniel Ricciardo

Starting off tentatively at number 5, Daniel had himself a drive to remember. Apart from the obvious, the round-the-outside overtake on Leclerc will remain one of the enduring images from the 2020 Bahrain Grand Prix. Daniel makes this car look better than it is at every juncture, and the best seems yet to come in 2021 with McLaren.

4. Max Verstappen

Flying Max tried something not readily seen since the 2016 F1 season. He put consistent pressure on the leader of a race. This time it was Hamilton. Boy did he get close. Sticking 4 seconds behind for much of the running, Max's chances at a strike on the lead were quelled as the number of laps swindled under the safety car, but his driving intuition didn't. A deserved 19 points at this race.

3. Sergio Perez

What a shame it'd be to see Perez out of F1. From the start, he's impressed against almost every teammate he's up against. Only the F1 Gods know how his time would have changed under a different arrival time at McLaren. One imagines he'd be near the top. Regardless, a near-miss P3 in the Racing Point car is spectacular. Of all the drivers today, he deserves the most credit.

2. Lewis Hamilton

The driver I've probably given the least credit to this year is Hamilton. After all the years, all the records, and all the reminders, it's been hard to characterize just how good he's been. Alas, even under constant pressure from Verstappen, Hamilton one-upped the 2014 battle of Bahrain to take his 95th victory. Champions never falter.

And of course: The Driver of the Day is Romain Grosjean
