F1 Spanish GP Grid Key Match-Ups

Up front:

P4 Sergio Perez vs. P5 Lance Stroll vs. P6 Albon

What a return Perez has put together since recovering from such a terrible disease. Squeaking Lance to P4 makes a huge difference when you consider how close to a podium that brings them. On Albon's part, another passable, yet disappointing qualifying for Verstappen's unlucky partner. Given the weakness of Racing Point's race pace (ironic) in the past few weeks, Red Bull must feel a performance from Albon is necessary to grab them some serious points this weekend.

In the Midfield:

P7 Sainz vs. P9 Leclerc vs. P11 Vettel

One of these drivers is fighting for a seat in the sport, and we won't give out points if you can guess which. Meanwhile, Sainz and Leclerc are revving up their battle for next year in the seats they currently inhabit. Does it matter who wins now? Absolutely. These drivers aren't secured the #1 seat at Ferrari from day one. Look at Leclerc two years ago for proof. Everyone thought Vettel had that seat locked down, but Ferrari are always willing to listen to performances. Watch for Sainz to mount his charge ahead of Charles in the driver's standings.

At the Back:

P 14 Raikkonen vs. P16/17 Magnussen & Grosjean

If you're a fan of these teams... I'm sorry (I am one of them). But today a miraculous drive from Alfa's Kimi Raikkonen has shed real spotlight on this battle for supremacy at the back. The points tally so far looks like 2:1 in favor of Alfa. On a weekend of relative pace for both cars, Kimi's far reach towards the front could guage who gets the bigger bonus at the end of the season. That means who's going to be closer to the track to redemption for the next three seasons.

Spanish Grand Prix Qualifying's Best Performers:

Best: Raikkonen, Perez, Gasly

Worst: Gio, Vettel, Ocon
