The Future of F1

In this uncertain time, I think I would be correct to say we're all looking forward to the future a bit. That being said, let's do the same for our F1 interest, and see the future of the up-and-coming talent on their way to F1 in the next few years.

1. Juri Vips

Red Bull knows talent. As the pipeline dried up over the past few seasons, it once again has begun to sprout. the next in line for this opportunity is Estonian(!) Juri Vips. As the premier driver of the academy at the moment it is almost guaranteed he will replace non-Red Bull candidate Daniil Kyvat for 2021. Alpha Tauri stepping up as a sister team may give them more freedom in driver pairings, but Red Bull need to keep the promise of a junior team alive to continue to attract the best young driving talent as they have for the previous 10 or so years. He is a very aggressive cornering driver, and I think his style will suit the Red Bull outfit should he ever make it. i think his potential is upper midfield, and we will see if he gets that chance.

2. Robert Schwartzman

This is the driver I'm most excited for in 2021 however. While the other entries are strong, I thin schwartzman has something special to be a long term fixture in the sport. His route in looks to be through Schumacher however, which will make things difficult. Given the star power behind his rival, Schwartz... will need to beat him substantially to pip him to the alpha seat in 2021. Furthermore, Binotto seems to rate him more highly than Schumacher, so granted he continues, it could sway alpha's decision if Ferrari state their preference. He got very lucky in his F3 campaign, but he is matured mentally, and needs to continue his good race craft if he wants to succeed in F1.

3. Dan Ticktum

Williams are like a driver revolving door. In order to maintain operations, any buyout offer from another team must be accepted, and Russell is likely to see the door in favor of brighter pastures in the future. Williams won't be left short handed however, although they might be short-brained. Ticktum, notorious for his purposeful crashes with other drivers, is also notorious for his serious speed. He managed to climb his way up the sport despite month-long bans and a torrid reputation in the sport. This speaks to his pace. While inconsistent in the lower formulas, Ticktum has the strength of good out and out pace. That is his qualifyings are good. As a former Red Bull driver, his ceiling is much higher than many who have joined Williams in the past, and they will be happy to see another Brit in the door for 2021.

4. Liam Lawson

Lawson is the one I see as least likely to make it to F1 at the moment. However, he is indicative of a switch in the way people enter the sport. At 16 years of age, Liam is set to be entering the sport at a very young age. As we've seen, F1 drivers are only getting younger, and Liam should be watched out for as a candidate to succeed here. Liam's standout characteristic is a high-level work rate, and let's hope he gets rewarded for it in one way or another.

5. Mick Schumacher

I left this one for last because of how obvious it is. If you've heard of a future F1 driver, you've heard of Schumacher. Or, well, if you've heard of F1 at all. His name supersedes his talent, but who wouldnt given the sheer star power of the name on the back of his jersey. That being said, Schumacher has had a natural rise towards Formula 1. His key attribute is adaptability, meaning it takes him time to adapt to the series he joins. It took multiple seasons to claim the F3 crown, despite racing many of the same drivers year-on-end. Same with F2, a slow start saw him then promoted to Prema, where he will race alongside Schwartzman for the seat at Alpha in 2021.
