Behind the Scenes at F1

If this time in quarantine has taught us anything, its gratitude for the things we so often take for granted. Whether its going outside, or the teams, drivers, and staff that make F1 possible for us on a weekly basis. Because of this, I wanted to take the time to recognize lesser known members of the sport we all enjoy so deeply. Hope you all are safe, enjoy.

Tom Muccullough is the Engineering Directer at Racing Point. A former driving enthusiast himself, Tom competed in multiple junior formulas in his journey in the motorsports world. He spent three years in formula ford, shadowing the racing prospects of his father.

Following his last years of racing, Tom moved to team Reynard to work on securing LeMans championships with Panoz and Cadillac. In 2002, Tom moved to the sport he is known for now, joining Williams as a race engineer. After a brief stint with Sauber in 2013, Tom moved to his current home, then Force India. Under his leadership the team has experienced its most successful years ever, securing five podiums, and a team record fourth-place finish in 2016 and 2017.

Tom's job mainly consists of managing driver and team relationships, as well as overseeing data analysis procedures. Tom is a married father. He has gone on record as saying he always tried to return by 7 to have dinner alongside his family. In that same interview, he said his main satisfaction comes from knowing every last bit was extracted from the car.

Hopefully this helps gain a greater appreciation for someone who works hard so we may all enjoy the sport we love. Thank you to Tom Muccullough and everyone else who makes Formula 1 a possibility.
