Rosberg Replacements?

1. Fernando Alonso

Frontrunner for sure, the 36-year-old who stumbled on the fountain of youth-ful driving has been stringing together stellar performances for over a decade. With the experience of 2 world titles (against Schumacher!), years of dedication, and a proven track record of extracting every millisecond out of a car, he would have to be at the top of Mercedes' shortlist for a replacement.

2. Pascal Wehrlein

The youngster has only spent a year in F1, but he's made headlines in a backmarker's car and is a contender for rookie of the year. He's a direct product of Mercedes' farm system, and though his years may be few, he's raced a Mercedes car on many occasions. (+He's German)

3. Paul Di Resta

A throwback for sure, as Mercedes' current third driver, we could soon see the orange and blue helmet back in the sport in 2017. He's one of Force India's proudest graduates (and they have a lot) which has sent graduates up and down the field, so why not Di Resta? Experience is there, skill is definitely there, and he's only thirty, meaning he's far from being finished with open-seat racing

The Long Shots:

4. Sam Bird

Sam Bird was Pascal Wehrlein before there was Pascal Wehrlein. He was the 3rd driver of then first-time world champions Mercedes before bowing out to race in FE. Without a doubt, if an offer came for him he'd be packing his bags and in the car by Sunday.

5. Pierre Gasly

Wouldn't it be incredible if Mercedes poached Red Bull's (second) most talented youngster to compete against RBR? I'd be a move that would shock the grid up and down, but Gasly is undoubtedly talented, and with years to improve, he definitely wouldn't be the worst choice they could make.

6. Charles Leclerc

GP3 champion anyone? The current champion of the series Verstappen came from, this Monagasque driver sits 25 points ahead of his closest rival. If they don't get him now, they might not get the chance again, look out for his name being mentioned.

In Your Dreams:

Nico Hulkenburg - How 'bout another Nico?

Stoffel Vandoorne - Worst comes to worst he'll make some killer waffles for the team.

Alexander Rossi - America anyone?
