Trophy for Pole: Makes sense I guess, it has a lot of
symbolic value for the team, but there is no current need for incentive to
qualify on pole. Mercedes would definitely love this rule.
Double Points for the Last Race: This would be kinda nice
from a fan perspective, but completely unfair for the drivers and constructors.
There’s nothing particularly different about the last race than any other
track, so I don’t see why there should be any difference in points awarded.
Personalized Numbers: This actually is a smart idea, because
drivers create numbers that become historic. Like 888 in V8 supercars or 43 for
Richard Petty in Nascar. Nigel Mansell was even remembered for #5.
Rules that should return to Formula 1:
Points for fastest lap: This gives points to middle of the
pack teams and also gives drivers an incentive to go as fast as they can, which
is what many of us want to see return to F1.
Refueling: Yes, I know how dangerous it could be but it can
be easily regulated, and people have been hurt by tires and we don’t ban the
use of tires (and both are necessary for a car to run). It makes strategy is
more interesting and races mre unpredictable.
