So, you may have not heard, but Kimi Raikkonen is going to
be out for the rest of the season due to back surgery. Now the question is, who
is going to drive the car? Here’s how I see it:
Davide Valsecchi: Obvious choice for the place. He’s the
third driver and former GP2 world champion. I really hope that they do choose
him, to prove that there is truly a place for all Gp2 champions in Formula 1. I
didn’t follow the Grand Prix 2 series last year, but he won with four wins,
four fastest laps, and finished 25 points ahead. The equivalent of a one first
and one third place finish. I just hope their willing to give them a chance. (He also has a really awesome helmet)
Luiz Razia: I’m pretty sure no one remembers him, but he was
the one that almost secured a place at Marussia before getting bumped out by
Bianchi. He finished second in the Gp2 championship with a team that finished
third to last in the previous season.
Antonio Felix De Costa: He was being eyed by Toro Rosso for
a while before being dropped for Daniil Kyvat, which basically means Red Bull
was considering him. If Red Bull is considering him, then he must have some
level of skill in him. He also finished a respectable third in this year’s
FR3.5 season.
Pedro de la Rosa: Bet you didn’t expect to see him on this
list, but the amount of experience he has would be invaluable to them and would
most likely add some points to their team’s total. The only other factor is
whether or not Ferrari will let him go, but I’m sure he would not mind most
likely a final two races in Formula 1.
James Calado: Coming straight from the Lotus GP2 team, he
seems like an obvious choice. He’s got two seasons under his belt, and drives
from a strong GP2 team, so his experience shouldn’t be in question. He has also
driven a Force India in the past, so he seems like a quality candidate.
