DIP: Allan Simonsen

Nationality: Danish (born in Odenese, Denmark)
Aged: 34
Team: Aston Martin Racing

Allan Simonsen began his career as a karter. It was only one year after that that he began his formal career as a racer in Danish Formula Ford. He won, and then transferred to Formula Palmer Audi (much like Formula Ford, but Formula Audi). Then German Formula 3 and Formula Renault 2.0 UK joined his resume over the next year. In 2002 he moved to the British GT Championship where he raced a Ferrari 360. Then he moved on to the larger part of his career, which was racing in Australia. He wen there to race in the Australian Nations Cup Championships, and competed in V8 Supercars. His nest finish was third in the Bathurst 1000 with Kelly Racing. He then competed in the Le Mans Series with Ferrari where he won the GT2 class and the SP7 class.

From 2007 onward he participated in the 24 hours of Le Mans. He achieved a podium in his first time there with third in the GP2 class. His best result came in 2010 with 2nd in class and 12th overall. Then, in what would become the last race of his life, he started 38th on the grid of 56 cars. The first lap went smoothly, but unfortunately, on the second lap, he spun at Terte Rouge. He hit the barriers hard. He was taken from his car consciously, but succumbed to injuries at a local hospital. After the race ended at 3:00 PM local time, the Tom Kristensen, one of the three drivers of the winning Audi #2 dedicated the win to the life of Allan Simonsen.

Rest in Peace.
