Stand-out #1: Caterham
Caterham has definitely been pushing over the break to catch up to Marussia. They were stunned by Marussia and Bianchi's outright pace. Think of it this way: Marussia is beating Caterham and Caterham got the money for tenth last year. If Marussia snatchd away 10th, it would give them the money and take it away from Caterham as well. With the extra cash flow, Marussia could just cruise by Caterham and on to battling Williams and STR. So Caterham needs to get ahead so that in Races like Monaco and Singapore where there are many DNFs which then gift places to teams lower in the field like Caterham.
As you can see, they changed the front completely. It now looks very similar to close rival STR, which is good for them because it's a sign that they are going in the right direction. Digressing a little bit, I was wondering the other day why having the Renault engine isn't giving them more of an advantage. Then I took a look at the car and I came up with a hypothesis. They aren't able to unlock it's full potential because the air intake is round. It seems a bit simple, but no other car has it, so it probably means that it is not the most effective shape. Anyways, they will be coming to Barcelona with an upgraded car and fresh data which will probably render them faster than Marussia. Also, they will be the first team to have data on full wet races, which could work to their advantage in places like Britain where heavy rain is expected.
