When a team like Mclaren has a fan-base like it does, some noise is made when they don't perform on par. That pretty much sums up their start to the season. They are currently 69 points behind where they were last year, and last year, they only finished 3rd in the championship. Of course, this is their best chance to improve because this is the longest time between races that there will be for the whole season. If they can't do it now, it will be harder to do it anywhere else, although it's not impossible.
Part of their early season struggles were due to Perez buckling under pressure. However, he's really trying to fight back, and while his showing in Bahrain was a bit too much on the aggressive side, he is displaying the will to win. The team is in a deep hole right now, and is currently confined to finishing 5th maximum, but if they can improve the car a bit, they could be able to joust some with Lotus. I think their final championship position will still be 5th, but it could possibly end up as high as 3rd.
