Marussia-Ferrari

Marussia-Ferrari: In my engine comparison article, I debated which engine Marussia should switch to for 2014 since Cosworth is going to drop out of F1. I chose Mercedes over Renault, mainly due to reliability issues for Red Bull with the Renault engine throughout 2012. However, now it seems like that doesn't matter because it is rumored that they are going to have a Ferrari engine in the MR-03. It makes sense, since Bianchi, a Ferrari Drivers Academy driver is currently their first driver. That also means that Marussia could become a Ferrari junior team. One might mention Toro Rosso, but both the drivers there are fully focused on Red Bull, and so is the team it seems.

The effect on Marussia would be both positive and negative. It would mean better drivers would be coming their way. They would also get some support from Ferrari on their cars, obviously they wouldn't give them the whole recipe for the next car, but they could give them hints for minor improvements that would help them move up the field to a solid points-scoring place in the field. It would also mean that the team's longevity would be ensured, probably canceling the Caterham merger.

The negative effects would be that Marussia could never fully make it up the field because Ferrari would not allow it. It would obviously be a jump for them to move up to a place where they would be challenging for wins, but it could be possible.
