Leimer has been a pretty successful driver since his official start in '03. He won the Swiss Junior Championship and finished runner-up the next year. Then, he finished second in the ICA in '06. Immediately after, and only three years after his start in professional racing, he began his career in open-wheel racing. His first series was Formula BMW, which he started with Team Rosberg. While his final position of 18th was nothing to be proud of, he did gain four valuable championship points, enough to launch him to Formula Renault. He raced in Eurocup Formula Renault 2.0, and Italian Formula Renault. He got a fastest lap in Eurocup, and two podiums in Italian Formula Renault.

Then, he got up to the big leagues. He raced for Jenzer Motorsport and helped them to a third place in the Constructor's Championship and second in the Driver's. In 2008, he took part in an Indy Lights prize test, which he won due to the first place winner declining the prize. In 2009 he returned to Italian Formula Renault  2.0, partnering with the reining champion. That year, he won 6 six out of the 7 races. Then, in 2010 he moved on the GP2, where he tested with Ocean Racing Technology in Jerez and was confirmed as their driver for 2010/2011 racing alongside Alexander Rossi and Max Chilton. He won the second race for Rapax replacing Luis Razia, but scored no further points that year. Then in 2011, he officially moved to the Rapaz team, and finished 5th in the Asian series while also grabbing a second main series win. Then in 2012, he finished 7th in the overall championship, his highest ever finish.

Why he'll end up in F1:

1. He's consistent
2. He's driving for Rapax, a notably strong team
