Massa the Champion?

Felipe Massa grabbed defeat out of the jaws of victory in Brazil 2008. He won the race, but on the last corner Hamilton overtook the struggling Timo Glock who was on slicks in the wet, hence giving himself the points he needed to win the championship. He didn;t have the chance in early 2009 because the Ferrari was tragic that year. Then, in Monza, he was hit in the head by debree from Barichello's Brawn ahead of him. Since then, from 2010-2012, he hasn't been the same, winning 0 races in all those years, as opposed to 6 in 2008. This year though it seems he's found his mojo again. Beating Alonso in both qualifying sessions that have occurred so far and finishing 5th in Malaysia. He also excelled in the last races of 2012, where he gained 2 podiums and a handful of places.

So, can he win this year? Well he and Alonso have a ton of respect for each other, and Alonso supported Massa when he was struggling in early 2012. So, at least for the moment, it won't be a Red Bull situation that would have constricted Massa to having a top placement of second in the championship. This could change, but seems unlikely. While the Red Bull is evidently a better car, the Ferrari is not that far behind. If the Red Bulls have a lot of issues with crashing or tires during the year, it would open up the championship for Ferrari to slip in and win. In the end, he probably has the exact same chance to win the championship as Hamilton, so if you can envision him winning, then Massa should also be a candidate.
