Like most drivers and unlike Mitch Evans, Coletti began his professional racing career in karting. He had a very successful career in karting, being a runner up in his first serious karting series championship in Italy. Immediately after, he began winning championships in the big time, winning the Andrea Margutti trophy and European Championship ICA-Junior. Not only that, but he out-raced Jaime Alguersuari, Charles Pic, and Bianchi along the way. He then raced in a string of Formula Series, including Formula BMW, Formula Renault, and Formula Three. Even though he didn't manage to win any championships and even got in an altercation with Bianchi, he moved up the ranks onto the GP series ladder. In GP3 he raced alongside JEV and finished 9th. He finally got his break in 2009 when he replaced Davide Valsecchi. He struggled initially, getting 3 drive-through penalties and suffering a heavy crash in Spa that left him with compressed vertebrae and minor bruising. He was out of GP2 until 2011 where he started with Scuderia Coloni, and moved to Rapax for races 21-24 and this season. He finished 13th in the end, however this season, he is currently running in 1st. (3rd in first race, 1st in second)
Why he'll end up in F1:
1 He's raced against current F1 drivers.
2 He's beaten current F1 drivers.
3 He's in first for this year's GP2 championship so he'll definitely finish high in this year's championship.
