Things to (and not to) Pay Attention to on Saturday

Pay attention to:

Tire strategy. The type of tires teams are using in each Qualifying session, especially in Q1 and Q3. For example what tires F.I. and Williams are using to get out of Q1. Then, in Q3, more teams will most likely use the prime tire as opposed to the option they used to use.

Don't pay attention to:

The pole sitter. No, I'm not crazy, but what I mean by this, is that the pole sitter will not necissarily win the race. As I mentioned previously, most teams will probably opt for the primes, thus meaning that the pole sitter will most likely have used options, and if the tire degradation is half as bad as the drivers have been saying, the choice of option vs. prime will be more important than qualifying position.

Pay attention to:

The midfield. The placement of the midfield teams is most likely going to change this year, hence looking at their qualifying performance will be crucial, because if the teams are close in pace, starting position will be extra important.

Don't pay attention to:

Alonso. This we already know. Alonso is not necessarily that great in qualifying, but really comes alive during the race.

Pay attention to:

Number of laps. Many teams may pull a Mercedes by getting into certain qualifying sessions and then not putting in a lap. That could effect both the results and the tire strategy of the race.
