3 Things Qualifying on Sunday Means for the Teams

3. Second Chances

Caterham, Force India, Mercedes, Ferrari, Red Bull, and Sauber all suffered damage due to spins and slips. While some ended up getting cought out in Q1, Merc, RBR, Ferrari, one Sauber, and Force India were able to squeeze through and would have had issues repairing in time. However, now they have the times, so the qualifying will be more true to what would have been.

2. Driver Fatigue

Instead of a day of rest, they will have less than 6 hours from qualification to the race. That is basically like having 2 races in one day, and while most drivers like to go above and beyond basic physical training, now they will really be put to the test. This means there could be more accidents, spins, and general mistakes. That could also put pit teams and damage management. The pit teams because if a driver loses their wing, it can ruin their race, but if the pit teams are able to do fast stops, they can seriously help their drivers. Then, if the wing doesn't fully fall off, the teams' judgement calls will be super important for the results of the race.

1. Reliability

Most cars had issues in just one practice session, so doing two sessions in row will take the importance reliability to a new level. Many teams have fallen prey to gearbox failures, which could also incur penalties.
